Split Ending Explained and Plot Story in Details

* * * Spoiler Alert – If you haven’t seen the movie yet, turn back now! * * *

Casey, a seeming weirdo in Claire’s class, is invited to her birthday party. Claire defames Casey to her father, and at that moment, Casey tells them that her car had broken down. So Claire’s father decides to drop her home.

A while later, getting in the car, Dennis Chloroforms them and locks them up in a room. They try to figure out what just has happened to them but can’t understand. After some moments, Dennis comes along and gets hit by Marcia. When Dennis pulls her out of the room, Casey notices some OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) acts of Dennis, she whispers ‘pee on yourself’ to Marcia’ and she does what Casey says and gets spared.

Casey thinks more and does less, but the rest do the reverse. Casey forbids them, but they don’t listen and try to escape frequently and get caught and separated.

Now, the kidnapper we all are waiting for is Kevin, who maintains 23 alter egos since he has DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder). He kidnapped those three young ladies to fulfill his mission to make the world pure by killing ‘impures’.

According to Beast theory, those who haven’t suffered in their life are considered impure. While they were looking for any chance of escaping, they met with different personalities of Kevin.

Kevin, who suffers from his mental illness, meets renowned psychotherapist Dr. Karen. She has been advising him for a long time so she can address any changes regarding his behavior. She heard the news of three missing young girls, and lately, she noticed that Kevin was allowing his attacking personalities like Dennis or Patricia to take control.

She knows he is prone to harass girls, so she becomes concerned. One day she caught him being Dennis to pretend Barry. Dr. Karen learned that two drunk girls had placed his hands on their breasts. When she confronts him, he tells her that something is preparing to come out. He named that “The Beast”, his 24th personality. Then out of anxiety, she decides to visit his place.

Kevin lives in a secret underground home at Philadelphia Zoo. When she finds out three girls have been detained at Kevin’s place, Kevin locks the therapist too. After a while, he unleashes his inner beast and becomes a monster.

Casey finds a way out of the room and sees Beast eating Claire’s flesh and Marcia dead. She enters another room and sees a name written on a crooked page. She yells when Beast comes for her, naming Kevin Wendell Crumb.

Hearing that, Kevin immediately becomes like a scared little boy and tells her that Kevin is not on his own body for two years. He tells her about a hidden shotgun. Casey finds the gun, leaves the place, and hides her behind a bar.

Beast comes to her and suddenly observes that she has scars all over her body. He realizes that Casey is also abused in her childhood by her uncle. So he releases her. The next day Casey is rescued by zoo security, and police retrieve the dead bodies.

What Are the 23 Alter Egos of Kevin’s DID?

As I said, Kevin has 23 alter personalities, and the 24th will be revealed in the end. But after watching, you will be dissatisfied when your mind cannot figure out all 23 alter personalities.

Yeah, the director only showed some of them in detail. He introduced eight characters, and they are,

Kevin He is the original who has become latent for two years.
Dennis He is physically strong and has OCD. He wants everything clean and tends to feel sexuality toward young girls but feels guilty too.
Patricia She is a sophisticated person, manipulative, feels interested in cooking, never loses hope, and does everything perfectly.
Hedwig He is a nine-year-old Boy, sensitive and impulsive. He does what the other alters order him to do.
Barry An aspiring fashion designer who loves to draw cloth designs.
Jade A teen who has diabetes and takes insulin.
Orwell Well educated, knows about history well.
The Beast A monster with superhuman strength.
Glass The other alters for the sequel is named ‘Glass’.

Why Claire Was Mocking and Defaming Casey?

Claire is an intelligent and gentle girl who used to be her father’s princess. When they used to go to the woods to prey on birds, her uncle also would participate. He was so sick that he took a chance on her naivety and abused her.

Experiencing that trauma, she becomes quiet. She usually takes detention intentionally because she doesn’t like to be around people, as she has traumatic childhood. She is not comfortable getting social. She likes to be alone and likes to be on her own.

Because of her unusual acts, other teens used to talk about her. That’s why we saw Claire criticizing her personality and mocking her.

Who Is That Man Replying to That Lady in the Ending Scene?

He is Bruce Willis. He starred in the first part of the Unbreakable movie series, where he was named David Dunn, who has the power to sense crimes when he touches others. He made a guy named Glass imprisoned 15 years ago. The lady asked about that man, and coincidentally he was sitting next to her, so he replied ‘Glass’. Glass will return in the sequel of this movie.
